Then in 2009, like many of the finest businesses of its generation, Applecross became a casualty of the global financial crash. It stopped trading. But the people, the values and the expertise did not disappear.

Colin Cumberland — Founder

Colin Cumberland qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in 1977 and spent two years in Saudi Arabia before returning to the UK to co-found Applecross Properties with his business partner Graham Aggett. What followed was over three decades of development that genuinely changed parts of Edinburgh, built on a relentless commitment to quality, care and craftsmanship.

After Applecross, Colin continued doing what he has always done best. He established Eskgrove Homes, delivering award winning residential development across Scotland and consulting on major city centre projects and private home refurbishments. He became Chair of the Scottish Home Awards, one of the most respected voices in the industry, and spent the best part of two decades proving that the standards he built Applecross on were not a moment in time. They were simply the way he works.

Now, nearly twenty years on, Colin has made the decision to bring Applecross back.

This is not a new company wearing an old name. It is the same people, the same principles and the same uncompromising approach to development that made Applecross what it was.

Colin is rebuilding the Applecross team with many of the original members who helped create the brand in the first place. The expertise, the relationships and the standards that defined Applecross the first time have never been lost. They have simply been waiting.
